FLIPPIN A WONKY LOG from Kwilty Pleasures

It always begins with a thought, an idea.
How can I make a traditional block, feel modern
Or a bit wonky?

I pulled some scraps and decided yellow would be
The centered focus piece for the block.
I had lots of blues and low volumes to use as the logs.
I like to use letters to organize the sewing.
Then stack the pieces one atop the others.

Move to the sewing machine
making one block at a time.
I wasn’t comfortable chain piecing.

I sewed a stack of
12 Traditional Log Cabin blocks.

Onto the design wall, ready for ...

TIPSY SANTA from Kwilty Pleasures

The weather outside is frightful.
One day it’s 70 degrees
The next it’s 30 and snowing!

I finished my Wonky Santa Quilt and timing was perfect!

He’s my ‘Tipsy Santa’. The blocks are sewn wonky,
the sleigh tracks (quilting) are swerving back and forth
and the weather is slick!  He’s waving and winking
and might just fall down the chimney!  I love this Santa!
I hope you do too!

A s,it,Rt love the back!

Those sleigh tracks are swerving!

And my Santa Babe!

SANTA'S ALL WONKED OUT! from Kwilty Pleasures

I certainly wanted to work on a Santa Wonky Log Cabin quilt
for Christmas 2025…didn’t happen!
I want to include it in my
‘Let's Get Wonky’ Lecture - trunk show.

It begins with a pile of fun Christmas fabric strips.
And a Santa fabric I fussy cut for the centers of these
WONKY Log Cabin Blocks.

It’s the same technique of making a traditional Log Cabin
but wonky means uneven sides, uneven strips.
The center block - at least 5 sides.
Building around it, clockwise, with strips.

Santa was the center of the log cabin block,
the black ...

HALLOWEEN TWIST! from Kwilty Pleasures

Who remembers the TWISTER RULERS?
I came across mine and thought…
This was wonky before wonky was cool!
Lemme make another to add to my
‘Let’s  Get Wonky’ trunk show!

The 10” TWISTER was perfect for using a Layer Cake.
Halloween Holiday Essentials
By Stacy Lest Hsu!

Notice the ruler lines.

36, 10” squares on the design wall.

Sew em up!

Then a 6” border was needed to frame the squares

Lay the ruler on the intersections lining up tbe ruler lines.

Cut around the ruler, as directed, to get the twister squares.

Cut the leftover pieces into usable ...

CHURNING OUT SOME WONKY! from Kwilty Pleasures

I have a trunk show available for groups, guilds called
"Let's Get WONKY"

The idea is to take a traditional quilt block
and make it wonky.

That's the idea here and I used
Missouri Star, Freestyle Churn dash tutorial
I had a Layer Cake and needed to give
this a try.

I love the result!

The backing uses same concept, my design, on a larger scale.

I gave it to Kim Hensley of
Happily Every Quilting.
We decided on the E2E Design WHITESPACE!
It's just perfect for this one.

Take a closer peek at it.

Here's ...

CROSS CUTTING A QUILT from Kwilty Pleasures

As usual I'm catching up with all my blog posts.
I still blog after 12 years, because its my personal journey.

Today I'm sharing a fun post about an inspiration I saw on Pinterest.

It began with a PINTEREST pic, of course,
CROSSCUT. A word, a photo, that caught my eye
And it all felt a bit wonky!
Thanks to
A Quilter’s Table
I was inspired to give it a try!

So to begin…blocks are made the same
BUT
For two different designs,
A traditional and a more modern
Or wonky design.

The layouts were the ...

WONKY CHURN DASH from Kwilty Pleasures

I have wanted to make a wonky churn dash block
quilt for a very long time.
I had an Autumn Woods Layer Cake
from Kate and Birdie.

I wanted something fall-ish for my great room.

Sew I snooped around the internet and found a
Freestyle Churn Dash tutorial by
Missouri Star.
Seemed like a good idea.
No need to reinvent the wheel
if the car is already moving!

Just google Freestyle Churn Dash, Missouri Star
to find the tutorial.
I also found a pattern, but I preferred the tutorial.
YOU DON"T NEED an entire LC to make the
top ...

NEVER TOO EARLY FOR CHRISMAS TREES! from Kwilty Pleasures

I luv me some wonky trees.
A Crazy Christmas Tree pattern was gifted
to me by a friend. I borrowed the Creative Grids
Spider Web Ruler from another friend
sew I could make this fun project.

During the summer I was busy working
on my trees for an upcoming guild presentation.

My Lets' Get Wonky presentation is sew fun.
I show traditional blocks and then how I
WoNKY them up!

The table runner was quick and easy to make.
I did some simple straight line quilting.

And love how it turned out.
